A rich tomato sauce smothers flavourful sausage and gnocchi.
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 yellow onion, sliced
- 4 cloves garlic, sliced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 2 tablespoons vodka
- 1 can crushed tomatoes
- 125 g cream cheese, cubed
- 4 milk or hot Italian sausages, casings removed
- 250 g store-bought dried gnocchi
Instructions:
- Add oil to a large skillet (with a lid) over medium high heat.
- Add the onions and garlic. Season with salt and pepper. Stir and sauté for a couple of minutes.
- Slowly add the vodka. Wait for 30 seconds before adding the crushed tomatoes. With the can now emptied, fill a 1/3 of it with water and swirl the can around to grab the remains tomatoes on the wall of the can. Dump it into the skillet. Stir.
- Place the cubed cream cheese on top, followed by the sausages. Do not stir.
- Cover with a lid, reduce heat to low and simmer for 2-2 1/2 hours.
- Add the gnocchi, ensuring they are submerged in the sauce, and cook according to the package directions.
